Melinda Comerford,
Photographer, AAIPP, President AIPP, Queensland 2007 Epson AIPP
Queensland Landscape Photographer of the Year
Melinda's
love of photography has taken her life on an entirely different path than
she ever would have
expected. ?>
After
graduating high school, Melinda was convinced that her life lay in ones,
zeros and courtrooms. Melinda began studying Information Technology/Law at
University before deciding that her creative juices needed some attention.
A classically trained opera singer since the age of 13, Melinda briefly
started down a path towards music, before redirecting again and studying
Photography. She hasn't
looked back since.
In the
early stages of her photographic career, Melinda worked as a digital
retouching artist, beautifying and de-wrinkling glamorous photos taken by
other studios. She also took a particular interest in restoring damaged
and old photographs to their former glory. This honed her Photoshop
abilities to the n-th degree, making Melinda a highly skilled Photoshop
artist.
Melinda
developed close bonds with her lecturers at college while completing her
Diploma of Photography, and excelled in her studies of the photographic
art. It was Melinda's college teachers who encouraged her to become
involved with the Australian Institute of Professional Photography, and in
2007 Melinda joined the Queensland Divisional Council for the
organisation. Having risen to her current position of President of
the A!PP in Queensland, Melinda has discovered another love in the
friendship and competition of the AIPP and its
members.
In 2006
Melinda took her first trip overseas to
?>England and Spain and
has been well and truly bitten by the "travel bug". Melinda's photos of
these two countries managed to score her many awards, including the AIPP's
2007 Queensland Landscape Photographer of the Year, and the 2007 Better
Photography "Places" Photograph of the Year. With any luck, 2009 will
allow Melinda to take another photographic trip to the United
States for something completely
different.
Melinda
surrounds herself with like-minded people: mostly photographers. Her
partner is also an accomplished photographer, himself, and the challenge
of who will take out the biggest award in 2009 is a fierce, but friendly,
battle.
Her
existing links within the music industry, from her singing days, have
created many opportunities for Melinda's photography. Doing artwork for
EPs and albums for local and national musical acts, as well as promotional
band photography is a true love for her. Melinda loves the
challenge of creating unique shoots for each act, and combines
architecture, urban scenes and stunning landscapes in her photographic
artwork.
Aside
from a potentially debilitating addiction to energy drinks (God help us
all if the servo is out of "V). Melinda is easy-going and friendly,
and wants to make your whole photographic experience her number one
priority.
